Sergei Prokofiev was born in Russia on April 27*, 1891. He began studying the piano with his mother at the age of three.

Sergei Prokofiev’s adaptation of the fairy tale The Love for Three Oranges (1921) debuted in Chicago, but proved to be such a critical failure that it would not be performed again in the United States for another 28 years.
